NatWest Pro 40 D1, Arundel: Sussex (246-4) bt Somerset (242-7) by six wickets
Matt Prior's 137 ensured Sussex made a winning start to their Pro40 campaign as they beat Somerset by six wickets. Set 243 to win, Prior's knock including 12 fours and three sixes ensured Sussex reached it with two balls to spare. Marcus Trescothick (91) contributed most to Somerset's 242-7, with Zander de Bruyn (70) the next highest scorer. Luke Wright (2-15) was the pick of the bowlers and he then contributed 40 with the bat as he put on 99 for the second wicket with Prior. The home side put Somerset in to bat, and having been dropped on just one run, Trescothick did his best to make sure Sussex were set a decent target, sharing a fourth-wicket stand of 125 with de Bruyn. Mike Yardy eventually claimed the wicket of the former England opener, but not before some damage had been done, and Arul Suppiah added to that at the close with 30 off 12 balls. Prior and Yardy (20) put on 64 for Sussex's opening wicket, before Wright joined Prior at the crease. Another decent stand for the third wicket - 74 between Prior and captain Chris Adams - got Sussex within touching distance of victory. The late dismissal of those two brought Murray Goodwin and Dwayne Smith to the crease, and they saw Sussex home.
