Bears beat Worcestershire easily

Twenty20 Cup, Edgbaston:
Warwickshire 151-5 beat Worcestershire 113 by 38 runs

Warwickshire continued their unbeaten run in the Twenty20 Cup with a 38-run victory over struggling Worcestershire in front of 15,000 fans at Edgbaston.

Leg-spinner Ian Salisbury had his best figures in the competition (3-18) as the visitors were skittled for 113 chasing a victory target of 152.

Salisbury, who did not play in the competition for Surrey last season, was well supported by his fellow bowlers.

Jonathan Trott and Neil Carter had given Warwickshire a decent platform.

They put on 55 for the first wicket, though the hosts were then pinned down in the middle overs by Gareth Batty (1-24) and Daryl Mitchell (2-19), and only squeezed past 150 thanks to former Bears skipper Michael Powell's unbeaten 25 from 19 balls.

Bowling was much more straightforward for the hosts, however, with all six bowlers taking wickets.

Worcestershire failed to establish a single notable partnership, the evergreen Graeme Hick top-scoring with 28 from 23 balls. And they were bowled out in 19 overs leaving their already slim Twenty20 Cup hopes in ruins.

To stand any chance of making the quarter-finals, Steve Rhodes' men now probably have to win all their last four remaining Mid/West/Wales Division group matches.
