FRIENDS PROVIDENT TROPHY Swansea: Worcestershire 139-3 (28.1 overs) bt Glamorgan 135 all out (31 overs) by seven wickets
Vikram Solanki shone as Worcestershire beat Glamorgan by seven wickets in the Friends Provident Trophy. Steve Magoffin took three wickets for seven runs in a burst of 23 balls as Glamorgan were restricted to 135-9 in a match reduced to 31 overs per side. Solanki then struck 69 off 71 balls as his team won with 17 balls to spare. To make the last eight, Worcestershire must now beat South West group leaders Gloucestershire on Wednesday, while hoping that Somerset lose at Cardiff. Glamorgan got off to a poor start after being put in, with Matthew Wood chopping on off Magoffin. Graeme Hick then caught David Hemp at slip - again off Magoffin - while Michael Powell and Tom Maynard were bowled in the space of two overs to leave Glamorgan on 18-4. Jamie Dalrymple, who struck Gareth Batty for two sixes in an over, top-scored with 47 before he was run out by Gareth Andrew as Glamorgan managed to reach 139. Solanki and Steve Davis put on 56 for the opening stand for Worcestershire. Wicket-keeper Davis was eventually caught at midwicket, while Dean Cosker bowled a miserly spell of 7-2-6-1. But Solanki reached his 50 in 48 balls and by the time he was dismissed with the score at 121-3, the visitors were all but home.
