Spearman hit 12 boundaries and two sixes in his 119-ball innings |
A superb century from Craig Spearman helped Gloucestershire to a four-wicket win over rivals Somerset in the Friends Provident Trophy at Bristol. Somerset reached 290-6 from their overs thanks to Justin Langer's 112, Zander de Bruyn's 42 and Peter Trego's 56. Seamer Mark Hardinges (3-60) was the pick of the Gladiators' bowlers. But Spearman's unbeaten 140, featuring eight fours and two big sixes, ensured the home side reached their target with 10 balls to spare. Gloucestershire suffered a blow before the start when skipper Jon Lewis strained a groin muscle in the warm-up. Somerset later had an injury setback themselves when Marcus Trescothick damaged an Achilles tendon while fielding, but the problem is not thought to be serious.
