FP TROPHY SOUTH WEST New Road: Worcestershire 186-3 bt Glamorgan 185-4 by seven wickets Match reduced to 28 overs per side
Vikram Solanki hit a superb unbeaten 88 as Worcestershire beat Glamorgan by seven wickets in a rain-reduced Friends Provident Trophy match at New Road. Solanki hit five sixes and two fours in a match-winning innings as he took the hosts to 186-3 with nine balls left. In a match reduced to 28 overs each due to rain, Tom Maynard (48) top-scored in the visitors' total of 185-4. Former England seamer Simon Jones marked his return from injury with figures of 1-43 from his six overs. It was the 30-year-old's home debut against the club he left last September after being sidelined since the opening day of the campaign with a neck problem. He was rather expensive in helping restrict his former team-mates. But it was Jones who ended Maynard's innings, when the batsman hoisted him to Ben Smith at long-on. The victory - their first of the season - takes Worcestershire off the foot of the FPT South West Division table.
