COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO Edgbaston, day one of four (close): Warwickshire 128-4 v Leicestershire
Dillon du Preez impressed on his county debut with two big wickets to help Leicestershire limit hosts Warwickshire to 128-4 on a rain-hit opening day. The South African removed both openers, Darren Maddy with his second delivery and Ian Westwood (39) later in the day. England star Ian Bell top-scored with 42 before he was trapped lbw, going half-forward to a Garnett Kruger ball. Bell should have been out to Du Preez's seventh ball, HD Ackerman spilling a routine chance at third slip. Jonathan Trott was unbeaten on 24 when bad light ended with play, with 46 of the day's overs lost to the weather. The match is showcasing the talents of 10 South Africa-born players in this match, six of them in the Leicestershire team. Du Preez was the leading bowler in South Africa's main domestic competition last season with 55 wickets for the Bloemfontein-based Eagles. In front of national selector Geoff Miller, Bell faced 75 balls, hitting six boundaries and showing increasing confidence until a soft dismissal.
