FRIENDS PROVIDENT TROPHY Riverside: Durham 220 (49.1 ovs) bt Yorkshire 215 (49.5 ovs) by five runs Defending champs Durham began their Friends Provident Trophy campaign with a nervy five-run win over Yorkshire. Put in to bat at an overcast Riverside, the Dynamos were indebted to new signing Neil McKenzie, whose patient 77 saw them to 220. Tim Bresnan took 3-51 then hit a 58-ball 55 at number eight as Yorkshire recovered from 140-8 in the 42nd over. The target was six off two balls when Bresnan fell driving a Graham Onions slower ball to extra cover. England bowler Steve Harmison struck with the first ball of both spells for Durham and hit the 90mph mark for figures of 2-40 in 10 overs. The expected clash between Harmison and Matthew Hoggard did not materialise, though, as Hoggard joined back injury victim Darren Gough on the sidelines with a stiff neck. Another paceman, Morne Morkel, has been delayed for 10 days by South African domestic Twenty20 commitments.
