COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO Edgbaston, day two of four (close): Warwickshire 215 v Worcestershire 249 & 150-2
Worcestershire built a useful lead of 184 at 150-2 after two days against Warwickshire at Edgbaston. Despite the loss of Simon Jones, who was unable to bowl due to a stiff neck, they earned a first-innings lead of 34. Former Somerset seamer Gareth Andrew took the last three Bears wickets in seven balls without conceding a run. Stephen Moore added to his first day century with 13 fours in his 66 and skipper Vikram Solanki fired 12 fours and a six in his unbeaten 75. Warwickshire lost night-watchman Lee Daggett to a slip catch in Kabir Ali's first over of the day, but Jonathan Trott triggered a strong recovery with 13 boundaries and shared 82 in 26 overs with Navdeep Poonia. Having reached 80 from 145 deliveries, Trott was called for a single by Tony Frost and run out by Moore's throw from square-leg, after which Andrew wrapped up the tail. Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes explained that no chances were taken with Jones, who has been plagued by a spate of injuries since his Ashes heroics in 2005. "He woke up with a stiff neck this morning," Rhodes said. "It wasn't too bad at first but when he tried to bowl later it locked up on him."
