County Championship D2, Taunton (day one): Somerset 194-4 v Nottinghamshire 158 all outNottinghamshire secured the point they needed to win promotion to Division One of the Championship when they took a bowling point in their final match.
Notts batted first, but failed to win a batting point as they made just 158.
But they did better with the ball and when Andre Adams had Somerset's James Hildreth caught at the wicket, the vital point was in the bag.
Marcus Trescothick hit an unbeaten 76, however, as Somerset reached 194-4 in reply to the visitors' 158.
Mark Wagh top-scored for Notts with 41, hitting nine fours in his 34-ball innings.
Charl Willoughby took 4-39 and Peter Trego 3-50 in a Somerset attack deprived of the injured Andy Caddick.
Somerset's reply began badly when Neil Edwards was lbw to Charlie Shreck for four. But Trescothick and Justin Langer showed good technique against the swinging ball.
Trescothick reached 50 off 83 balls with seven fours, while Ian Blackwell's 70 came off only 57 balls and by the close his boundary count had risen to a six and 10 fours.
