Mark Wallace's 209-ball 120 was not enough to earn Glamorgan the first-day spoils as Lance Klusener took centre stage for the hosts at Northampton.

Glamorgan got off to the worst possible start when Klusener trapped him lbw in the third over and the top five all failed as the visitors slumped to 67-5.

Wallace and Andrew Davies (49 not out) helped Glamorgan up to 280 all out, though, Klusener taking 5-40.

Stephen Peters and Andrew Crook then took Northants to 61-0 by the close.

All of that came after David Hemp decided to bat first upon winning the toss.

And the Glamorgan skipper was grateful for a fine knock by Wallace, who shared a seventh-wicket stand of 54 with Robert Croft before putting on 53 for the eighth wicket with Dean Cosker.

He finally went when he edged Klusener to David Sales at first slip.

And Glamorgan's innings was brought to a close two overs later when Huw Waters was run out by Rob White for a duck with Andrew Davies stranded on 49 not out.

Peters and Crook's late stand ensured the hosts ended the day in the driving seat.
