County Championship Division One, Scarborough, day one: Yorkshire 25-0 v Warwickshire 129 Yorkshire new boy Inzamam attracted plenty of attention |
Yorkshire got their title chase back on track by dismissing Warwickshire for 129 on the first day at Scarborough.
The Tykes then reached 25-0 at the close of play, Andy Gale 17 not out, as 33 overs were lost to bad light.
The visitors struggled to recover from a shocking start in which Matthew Hoggard removed Darren Maddy and Kumar Sangakkara in a double-wicket maiden.
The England seamer finished with 4-33 as Warwickshire struggled at a ground traditionally known for high scores.
The Bears took 31 overs to reach 50 and but for a wagging tail the total could have been much worse, Alex Loudon's 33 the only decent score from the recognised batsmen.
Yorkshire gave a debut to Inzamam-ul-Haq, but the former Pakistan captain's only moment of note on his first day of county cricket was a catch at second slip to dismiss Maddy.
After the day's play, Inzamam said, "It's not just cold, it's freezing cold," about the the 14 degree temperature made worse by a biting wind from the North Sea.
"I played here in 1992 and it was the same then. But it's good, especially after four or five months without cricket. With Younus (Khan) going, it was a good opportunity for me. It's a good club."
