County Championship Div One, Riverside: Durham 232 v Surrey 161-7 (day one)Steve Harmison continued his comeback after a hernia operation in helping Durham take charge of their Division One championship match against Surrey.
The England paceman, who took 1-41 in a Pro40 match against Kent on Sunday, got through seven overs and returned 1-31 as 17 wickets fell at the Riverside.
Ottis Gibson (3-46) was the chief threat as Surrey slumped to 161-7 in reply to Durham's 232 all out.
Shiv Chanderpaul was the mainstay of the hosts' innings, hitting 81.
They were cruising at 181-3 with Michael di Venuto hitting a half century but the exit of skipper Dale Benkenstein sparked a collapse.
Chanderpaul reached 50 off 79 balls with nine fours but throttled back as wickets started to fall and hit only one more boundary in the next 87 deliveries.
Surrey's wobble began when Harmison persuaded Jon Batty to edge a drive wide of off-stump and wicket-keeper Phil Mustard held a stunning diving catch.
Two more wickets fell in the next over as Ramprakash declined a run to backward square and Scott Newman failed to get back, then Mark Butcher edged Gibson to first slip.
And the previously expensive Liam Plunkett struck a crucial blow in the last over by having the prolific Mark Ramprakash caught at second slip for 62.
