County Championship Div 1, Rose Bowl, day two (stumps:) Hampshire 455-9d & 103-8d v Worcestershire 86 & 24-0
Hampshire set Worcestershire a mighty 473 to win after bowling out the visitors for 86 and declaring on 103-8.
On a day at the Rose Bowl in which parts of all four innings were played, Worcestershire reached stumps on 24-0.
Play began with Hampshire 350-5 in their first innings and Shane Warne pulled the plug at 455-9, with Nic Pothas still batting on 71.
Worcestershire then succumbed in 34 overs with Daren Powell (4-8) and James Bruce (4-31) the chief destroyers.
Powell, the West Indian pace bowler who had a mixed summer in the Tests and one-dayers, extracted bounce and pace from the wicket and proved a real handful.
Warne had the option of enforcing the follow-on, but opted instead to let the home fans watch his team bat again.
They did not find life particularly easy, though, with Michael Lumb's 57 masking an incoherent second innings in which Doug Bollinger and Gareth Batty each cashed in with three wickets.
Warne's second declaration of the day gave his bowlers four more overs at Worcestershire.
But Phil Jaques and Stephen Moore, following their ducks earlier in the day, this time held firm.
