Flintoff resumes bowling duties
Championship D1, Liverpool, day two (close):
Lancashire 301 v Sussex 274 & 127-2

Andrew Flintoff
Flintoff faced 36 balls, hitting six boundaries
England's Andrew Flintoff bowled four overs for Lancashire against Sussex in front of England's chairman of selectors David Graveney on Wednesday.

Having hit six fours in a cameo 34 from 36 balls at Liverpool, he then resumed his bowling duties ahead of schedule in his recovery from an ankle operation.

Graveney told BBC Sport. "The target for him to be available in the one-day [series against India] is on course.

"He's got huge games for Lancashire - this game and Twenty20 finals day."

Lancashire also have a Roses match against Yorkshire, in which Flintoff will also want to play.

Flintoff was due to play as a batsman only at Liverpool but after hitting six fours in a cameo 34 from 36 balls, he sent down four overs for only one run.

Looking particularly strong on the leg-side, Flintoff hit successive fours off left-arm seamer Jason Lewry, who was the pick of the Sussex attack with 4-81.

Stuart Law, who averaged 118 against the champions before the start of this match, added 95 before the home side lost four wickets for 22 runs in the afternoon session.

They finished with 301 for a lead of 37, before Sussex reached 127-2 at stumps on day two.

After Dominic Cork had Chris Nash caught behind with the first ball of the Sussex second innings, Flintoff took a slip catch to dismiss Nash's opening partner, Richard Montgomerie off Glenn Chapple.

But Michael Yardy (52) played a fine containing innings and was supported by the free-scoring Murray Goodwin, who hit 10 fours in his 68, as Sussex built a useful advantage.
