Heavy rain in the Birmingham area delayed Sri Lanka star Kumar Sangakkara's Warwickshire debut.

Sangakkara was set to make his bow against Durham at Edgbaston but no play was possible because of the downpour.

When it does start, he will line up as a specialist batsman, with Tim Ambrose retaining the wicket-keeping duties.

Durham will be without Steve Harmison, Paul Collingwood and Liam Plunkett, who are all with England for the first Test against West Indies at Lord's.
