County Championship D1, Worcester:
Worcestershire v Kent
Match abandoned as a draw, teams awarded four points each
The outfield was considered far too muddy for first-class cricket
Worcestershire's match against Kent at New Road was abandoned after no play was possible on the first three days. A wet outfield prevented any action on the first two days and further rain wiped out Tuesday and forced both teams to settle for four points for a draw.
The England and Wales Cricket Board is due to begin an investigation after Kent raised concerns about the issue.
The visitors had asked for the game to be moved to Beckenham or elsewhere in Worcestershire but the hosts declined.
New Road was flooded on 26 June when the Severn burst its banks, and the ground has not been fit for cricket since then.
A further storm on Monday exacerbated the problems and despite frantic efforts from the groundstaff it was still not ready for play.
Umpires Richard Kettleborough and Martin Bodenham consulted the ECB before abandoning the game after only an hour of the third day with pools of water on the outfield.
Worcestershire are desperately hoping to stage their televised Pro40 match at the ground on Friday to recoup lost money.
