Warne has two five-wicket hauls in the Championship this season |
Hampshire have been lifted by the news skipper Shane Warne will play in the key Championship fixture with Sussex. The county had feared Warne would miss two matches to take part in a training camp for the Australian Test team.
But the spin wizard negotiated an early release and will be available for the Sussex match on 31 August, missing the Warwickshire match a fortnight earlier.
Director of cricket Tim Tremlett said: "We're very pleased he will play in a pivotal match of the season."
After both teams drew last weekend, Sussex are currently top of the Championship, although they have played one game more, with Hampshire just 15 points behind in third.
All the Australia contracted players were ordered to attend the training camp, which is rumoured to incorporate some stringent physical elements, as coach John Buchanan continues his preparations for the Ashes.
"We've had dialogue with Cricket Australia, as Shane has, and we're up-to-date with where we stand," Tremlett confirmed.
There was also encouraging news of young paceman Chris Tremlett, who was taken to hospital on Friday with breathing difficulties.
Tremlett senior was confident that his son would only miss the Championship match against Middlesex beginning on Tuesday.
"He's got some sort of rib injury, he was left very short of breath so he had to get it sorted out," he explained.
"He's OK now but he just needs a few days off to get over it and hopefully by the end of the week he should be back in training."
