County Championship Division One, Lord's (stumps, day one): Middlesex v Durham 379-6Dale Benkenstein and Gareth Breese hit centuries to help Durham amass 379-6 on day one against Middlesex at Lord's. The visitors were struggling despite Jimmy Maher's 46 and 68 from Gordon Muchall before the duo took over.
They put on 222, with Benkenstein (125) cracking three sixes and 18 fours and Breese making a dogged unbeaten 107 off 177 balls, featuring 14 boundaries.
He was still there at the close and the home side had only tall seamer Chad Keegan's 3-76 to smile about.
Benkenstein and Breese's stand was a fifth-wicket record for their team and turned the innings around after they had lost three quick wickets after lunch to slip to 131-4.
Jamie Dalrymple travelled down from Old Trafford after being released by England and joined the match in the final session, replacing Chris Peploe.
But he managed just three wicketless overs and never threatened the batsmen.
Six overs were lost late in the day to bad light and though the players came back out to bowl the remaining three overs, Keegan managed just three balls before the umpires called it a day.
