Bradford-born Rashid spun Warwickshire to defeat |
Yorkshire believe 18-year-old leg-spinner Adil Rashid's exciting debut shows how far the club has come. The county has struggled to recruit from its Asian community but Stewart Regan says Rashid's 6-67 against Warwickshire is reward for progress.
The Chief executive told The Observer: "There has been a change in attitudes. The issue of the past when the club was accused of being racist is history.
"When Adil made his debut it proved any lingering critics wrong."
He added: "Part of the perceived problem in the past was that Asians didn't feel welcome at Yorkshire, not necessarily for racist reasons, but because they didn't feel part of the set-up.
"Maybe that was because not many of their group were in or around the first team. We have moved on in that respect."
