County Championship D2, Guildford (day one, stumps)
Somerset 442-2 v Surrey Justin Langer made light of stifling temperatures at Guildford to hit an unbeaten 234 as Somerset's batsmen tucked in on day one at Guildford.
By stumps, the visitors had amassed a highly impressive 442-2.
Langer put on 227 with Neil Edwards and 162 for the second with Arul Suppiah. On Thursday he can go for the first triple-century of his fine career.
Anil Kumble's Surrey debut did not go entirely according to plan. The Indian leg-spinner took 1-100 in 28 overs.
Langer faced 279 balls in all, carving 31 fours and two sixes.
He has already hit the highest ever individual score at Guildford, beating the previous best of 228 recorded by Darren Bicknell in 1995.
The Australia Test opener is playing his final Championship match before returning to Perth next week.
