County Championship D2, Worcester, day one (stumps): Worcestershire 394-4 v NorthamptonshirePhil Jaques hit his second Championship
double-century of the season to put Worcestershire in a strong position against Northamptonshire at New Road.
In his last game before joining Australia A, Jaques hit 202 against his former side to take Worcs to 394-4.
He put on 247 with Graeme Hick - who was 93 not out at the close - just short of his 100th ton for his county.
Sourav Ganguly's first delivery for Northants was a wide and he received a warning for running on the pitch.
The former India captain is spending six weeks with the county as a stand-in for Aussie batsman Chris Rogers.
Jaques, who made a career-best 244 in Worcestershire's previous Division Two
match against Essex at Chelmsford, went into the match with a Championship average of 89.87.
The stand with Hick ended when Jaques was caught at midwicket by substitute Jason Brown off Monty Panesar after striking one six and 27 fours off 294 deliveries.
It was a Worcestershire record for the fourth wicket against
Northamptonshire.
