Smith and Hick enter record books
County Championship D2, Taunton, day two (stumps): Worcestershire 618 v Somerset 199-3

Ben Smith and Graeme Hick set a record fourth-wicket stand for Worcestershire before the visitors were finally bowled out by Somerset for 618 at Taunton.

Wes Durston then hit 89 not out as Somerset reached stumps on day two of this Division Two match on 199-3.

Smith (203) and Hick (182) had broken a 27-year record established by Alan Ormrod and Younis Ahmed.

Both men were eventually dismissed by left-arm seamer Charl Willoughby, who took 6-104 after sending down 32 overs.

Hick, who had begun the day on 151, again looked in complete control and was visibly upset when judged to have edged a wide delivery from Willoughby to wicketkeeper Carl Gazzard.

Smith reached his double hundred early in the afternoon session but was out two balls later, one short of the 204 he made for Leicestershire against Surrey at The Oval in 1998, as Willoughby found another outside edge.
