C&G Trophy, Hove: Sussex 201-4 (39.4 overs) bt Middlesex 200-4 (40 overs) by six wickets Rana Naved bowled a superb spell for Sussex |
Murray Goodwin's unbeaten 88 steered Sussex to a six-wicket win over Middlesex in the C&G Trophy.
Goodwin (88) put on 144 with Richard Montgomerie (72) to shrug off the early losses of Matt Prior and Chris Adams.
The hosts overhauled Middlesex's 200-6 in a game shortened to 40 overs each with two balls remaining at Hove.
Earlier, Owais Shah hit three sixes in his 82 off as many balls, while Paul Weekes stroked a patient 50 but their side have now lost both their games.
On a slowish pitch, Middlesex struggled to make headway - it took 17 overs for the first boundary to arrive - as Rana Naved-ul-Hasan (4-34) kept the scoring in check.
Shah opened up to smash Mark Yardy for huge sixes over extra cover and mid-wicket as the spinner conceded 20 in his final over.
It helped Middlesex add 57 in their last five overs and they were in a good position when Prior and skipper Adams fell in the first seven overs.
But Goodwin and Montgomerie regained control for the home side and they did not relinquish it.
