Worcs boss plays down Bears link
Dennis Amiss

Worcestershire chief executive Mark Newton has played down reports linking him to the same post at Warwickshire.

Former England batsman Dennis Amiss is to step down as Bears boss next year and Newton had been seen as favourite to take over that role.

But Newton said: "It is a great honour and flattering to be linked with what is one of the best jobs in cricket.

"But at the moment I am extremely happy and a move to Edgbaston is highly unlikely at this stage."

Newton also insisted there were still challenges at New Road and that "it would take a lot for me to walk away from this job".

  • Meanwhile, Worcestershire are set to offer 37-year-old all-rounder David Leatherdale a new 12-month deal to play one-day cricket.
