Van Bunge knock in vain for Dutch
C&G Trophy first round, Rotterdam: Warwickshire 237-5 beat Holland 214 by 23 runs

Holland lost to Warwickshire by 23 runs Rotterdam in the C&G Trophy, but rising Dutch star Daan van Bunge hit a rousing 89 to give the minnows a sniff.

Nick Knight's 108 in a total of 237-5 had seemed to give Holland too much to chase as the hosts reached 101-4 off 27 overs overnight in Rotterdam.

But van Bunge then hit 89 off 104 balls while South African Billy Stelling thumped 45 off just 38 deliveries.

Things looked dicey for Warwickshire but they ultimately prevailed.

We always seem to get one of the top sides

And they had Heath Streak (4-27) and Neil Carter (4-34) to thank for that as Holland slumped from 205-5 - with four overs left and just 33 needed - to 214 all out at the end of the 49th.

Afterwards, Dutch veteran Tim de Leede said: "We surpassed many people's expectations.

"Warwickshire are a great side and it would have been a massive win for us. It's a shame.

"We've only beaten an English county once before and that was Durham. This would have been different.

"We always seem to get one of the top sides. We can't see any cricket over here so apart from Nick Knight and Heath Streak we didn't know too much about them."
