Twenty20 Cup, Lord's: Middlesex v Surrey Twenty20 came to Lord's for the first time |
Surrey continued their unbeaten record in the Twenty20 Cup with a 37-run victory over cross-town rivals Middlesex at a packed Lord's. Adam Hollioake's unbeaten 65 from 41 deliveries took the Lions to 183-5 after they were put in to bat.
Despite a maiden Cup half-century by Lance Klusener, who hit 53 in 32 balls, Middlesex were not up to the pace.
Surrey's win booked them a quarter-final spot and ended the hopes of Middlesex in the process.
An estimated 26,500 witnessed the first ever match in this competition at the home of cricket.
The last county match, except one-day finals, to attract so many paying spectators to the venue took place when the same counties met in August 1953.
