A superb spell of bowling from Aussie international Andy Bichel ensured a comfortable win for Worcestershire in the third round of the C&G Trophy.

Bichel took 4-17 as Somerset were despatched for just 95 in 28 overs.

The 2003 finalists reached their target in only the 15th over, losing just two wickets along the way.

Bichel and Gareth Batty fired with the bat in an unbroken partnership of 71 while Andy Caddick's five overs cost 42 runs, though he did take one wicket.

The winning hit was a six by Bichel off Richard Johnson.

Veteran all-rounder David Leatherdale was another to shine for Worcestershire with the ball, taking 3-9. Kabir Ali, returning from injury, took 1-48 in eight overs.

Somerset's score was all the more feeble given that they had elected to bat first at New Road.

England pair Marcus Trescothick and Ian Blackwell were the only men to pass 20, while eight batsmen failed to reach double figures.

"Let's hope this is the launching pad to some consistent cricket in both forms of the game," said Worcestershire's Director of Cricket Tom Moody.

"Andy Bichel has been finding it tough to get regular rhythm since he's been over here but today is the best he has bowled and I'm sure he will go from strength to strength."

Somerset coach Kevin Shine pulled no punches about his side's performance, describing it as a "complete horror show".

He added: "It was a completely sub-standard performance from us. I was thinking what a great start we had got and then the wickets just kept falling."
