C&G Trophy third round, Bristol: Gloucestershire 157-7 (37.5 overs) beat Hampshire 154 (46.1 overs) by three wickets Shoaib Malik kept his nerve to steer holders Gloucestershire into the C&G Trophy quarter-finals by virtue of a three-wicket win over Hampshire.
Jon Lewis took 4-39 as they bowled out the visitors for just 154 and looked in control as Craig Spearman (50) and Phil Weston (29) put on 76 in reply.
But Hampshire skipper Shane Warne revived his side with a spell of 4-23.
Gloucestershire slumped to 137-7 but Malik ended the match in the 38th over as his unbeaten 28 saw them to 157-7.
Warne may have erred by electing to bat first, not usually a wise choice in cloudy conditions in Bristol in May.
He also surely made an error in keeping both himself and Alan Mullally back as the fifth and sixth bowlers to be used.
Although both took wickets and put plenty of pressure on the lower order they simply did not have enough runs to play with.
