Shah is hoping to revive his international career |
Middlesex batsman Owais Shah has ended speculation about his future by signing a new four-year contract. Newspaper reports had linked Shah, who will spent this winter as a member of England's Academy squad, with Surrey.
But he has decided to remain with the club for whom he made his first-class debut as an 18-year-old in 1996.
Shah had a spell as captain earlier this summer following Andrew Strauss' elevation to the England team but the job was then given to Ed Joyce.
A middlesex statement said the decision to relieve Shah of the captaincy responsibilities had been taken in "the best interest of the side".
He has scored more than 7,500 first-class runs during his career at an average of 38, including 19 centuries, and 4,500 in one-day cricket.
Shah has played 15 limited overs internationals, but has not featured since England's 2002-03 tour to Australia.
