County Championship D1, Hove (close): Sussex 395-5 v Warwickshire Tony Cottey lashed out with the bat as he blasted his way to 188 at Hove.
Cottey smashed 31 fours in the 276-ball knock to record his highest score for Sussex.
Richard Montgomerie and Tim Ambrose also posted half-centuries as Sussex were well on top in the Division One clash against Warwickshire.
Warwickshire had got off to the perfect start, when Waqar Younis bowled Murray Goodwin for a duck but they then had to wait 165 runs before the next wicket fell.
At stumps, Sussex had notched up a hefty 395-5, with Robin Martin-Jenkins unbeaten on 25.
