Chris Silverwood led the way with a typically brisk 38 but Richard Blakey (20) and Richard Dawson (14) also made useful contributions. They were needed after Yorkshire had threatened to stumble following a solid start. Darren Lehmann was again prominent with 75, whilst youngster Chris Taylor chipped in with his second first-class half-century. However, when Lehmann was sixth man out with the score on 212, it seemed Yorkshire may capitulate once more. Blakey and Silverwood ensured that the collapse did not continue with a partnership worth 63 for the eighth wicket before Blakey became Shane Bond's first victim in county cricket. Silverwood himself fell shortly afterwards but Andy Gray and Chris Elstub remained taking Yorkshire to 304 for nine by the close.
