Blackwell hit 12 fours and four sixes in his unbeaten ton
County Championship, Taunton: Yorkshire 213 all out v Somerset 186-6

  Latest scorecard

Ian Blackwell scored an unbeaten century to keep Somerset in the hunt against Yorkshire at Taunton.

Blackwell starred with 104 not out, Somerset finishing day one on 186 for six after Andy Caddick earlier took five wickets to help knock the reigning champions over cheaply.

Blackwell was given admirable assistance by Keith Dutch (30 not out), and the pair enjoyed an unbroken stand of 114 after coming together with the score on 75 for six.

Chris Silverwood was the early destroyer for Yorkshire, taking three quick wickets - including Marcus Trescothick for a duck - as Somerset fell to 19 for three.

Keith Parsons soon followed for six before Matthew Hoggard struck twice to remove Michael Burns and Robert Turner.

Upstaged

The incumbents were then put together, and much will hinge on their ability to carry on if Somerset are to turn a 27-run deficit into a lead on day two.

Michael Lumb earlier scored 66 for Yorkshire, but Caddick upstaged him on his first Somerset appearance for the championship season.

The England bowler dismissed international team-mate Michael Vaughan for three early on and followed that with the wicket of skipper Darren Lehmann for 12.

When Caddick removed Lumb, Yorkshire had fallen to 127 for six.

It was left to Silverwood to add 44 unbeaten runs and guide Yorkshire past 200, but he was left alone when Caddick dismised last man Hoggard to register his 57th first-class five-wicket haul.
