Kent won the Norwich Union League title after they beat Warwickshire at Edgbaston - but only because Leicestershire again failed to win.

Kent's late form has been in stark contrast to the Foxes', whose final day loss was the fourth consecutive match they had failed to win.

While Leicestershire were losing to neighbours Nottinghamshire, Warwickshire were looking good to score the 218 they needed to beat Kent, with Ian Bell and Mark Wagh going well.

But alas for Leicestershire, the Bears were ultimately unable to get them out of jail, and the trophy went to the Spitfires skipper Matthew Fleming.

Hockley on song

James Hockley hit 90 and Robert Key a rapid 50 as Kent recovered from 124 for four to close on 216 for six.

With the target adjusted to 218 in 40 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis method, Nick Knight was the first wicket to fall, dismissed by Martin Saggers for 11.

Bell and Wagh then hit seven boundaries each as Warwickshire made a great attempt to win, but the dismissal of Wagh for 58 sparked a collapse.

Kent's hero was Andrew Symonds. He took five for 18 in six overs of seam bowling - he usually bowls spin.

Warwickshire: N V Knight, M A Wagh, D R Brown, D L Hemp M J Powell (Capt, Wkt), T L Penney, N M K Smith, I R Bell M A Sheikh, C E Dagnall, A Richardson.
Kent: M V Fleming (Capt), D P Fulton, J B Hockley, A Symonds P A Nixon (Wkt), M A Ealham, M J Walker, R W T Key, B J Trott M M Patel, M J Saggers.
