Andy Caddick and Marcus Trescothick rediscovered winnings ways to help Somerset to victory in the C&G Trophy quarter-final against Kent at Canterbury.

Trescothick enjoyed time in the middle and Caddick produced a telling spell with the ball to put Somerset on course for victory.

Caddick knocked over both opening batsmen in his initial burst and later returned to complete a 10-over spell of two for 35.

Trescothick held a rasping chance at second slip off Kent's Australian one-day player Andrew Symonds.

Earlier Trescothick was put down at second slip by Min Patel on eight, but that escape brought out the left-hander's most telling shots and three of the next four balls off Ben Trott disappeared to the boundary.

Trescothick went on to strike 43 from 54 balls before in-form seamer Mark Ealham bowled him.

After he went man-of-the-match Michael Burns overshadowed the bigger names with a well-made 71 from 83 deliveries, striking a six and eight fours.

Ian Blackwell produced some clean striking to post his own half-century while Rob Turner added 30 not out.

Kent were left to reflect on a sub-standard day in the field which boosted Somerset's eventual total to 263 for eight.

Caddick removed James Hockley in his fifth over, had David Fulton lbw in his seventh and Somerset held an initiative they were never to relax.

Robert Key struck 58 off 106 deliveries and some late hitting by captain Matthew Fleming (40) produced a rush of runs but the task was beyond them.
