Vince Wells completed the ideal captain's innings at Trent Bridge by carrying his bat through Leicestershire's reply to book them a place in the quarter-finals of the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy.

Needing just 52 runs to win from the final 20 overs of their rain-ravaged clash with neighbours Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire made short work of the task following a shaky start .

Seamer Richard Logan and Blewett bowled a tight line from the off as just eight runs were added from the first five overs.

After suffering the early setback of losing Ben Smith, who was caught by the diving Greg Blewett off Richard Logan for 27, Wells was joined by Darren Maddy.

Either side of the game's 10th stoppage for rain, the pair then added the 47 runs required for victory in less then 10 overs.

On a tricky wicket, skipper Wells was happy to assume the anchor role and completed a battling half-century from 94 balls - including six fours.

Maddy faced 18 balls before he got off the mark but then changed up a gear and proceeded to crash five fours and an enormous six from the next 19 balls he faced to finish unbeaten on 34.

Wells remained at the end on 54 not out and walked off the field to collect his man of the match award for orchestrating the six-wicket win with 47 balls to spare.

On Wednesday Nottinghamshire had struggled to 176 all out, Usman Afzaal top scoring with 49.

Leicestershire will now face Worcestershire in the last eight.
