Lashings land Sir Viv
Sir Viv Richards hits a six during a charity game
Sir Viv is still a fearsome sight for any bowler
Former West Indies captain Sir Viv Richards is coming out of retirement to join the all-star ranks of English club side Lashings.

The 49-year-old will be part of an star-studded team for a day-night challenge match against Kent at Canterbury on 6 August.

"It's quite an honour to have Sir Viv in your team. It gives you a tingle in your stomach," club chairman David Folb told BBC Sport Online.

Richards is one of the all-time greats of Test cricket, having scored 8, 540 runs in 121 appearances at an average of 50.23.

He made 24 Test centuries, with a best of 291 against England at The Oval in 1976, and also scored 6,721 runs in 187 one-day games.

Lashings hope he will play around half a dozen matches for them during the remainder of the summer.

Fellow West Indians Jimmy Adams, Richie Richardson, Stuart Williams and Junior Murray play regularly for the club, and Folb is hoping that Brian Lara will also return for the Kent game.

Lara appeared for Lashings earlier in the season before joining the West Indies squad in Zimbabwe, but was subsequently forced to pull out of the tour because of a persistent hamstring problem.

The club has also recruited South Africans Allan Donald and Herschelle Gibbs and Pakistani duo Wasim Akram and Inzamam-ul-Haq for the game against Kent.

"Our team puts the cool back into the game," said Folb.
