Acting skipper Darren Bicknell smashed an unbeaten century to put Nottinghamshire into their first knockout cup semi-final for 11 years.

The left-handed opener hit 14 fours in his unbeaten 117 as Notts cruised to a six-wicket victory over Warwickshire with 23 balls to spare of their Benson & Hedges Cup clash at Trent Bridge.

Greg Blewett (21), Paul Johnson (18) and Usman Afzaal (28) all chipped in with runs, but it was Bicknell who led them home.

It was cruel on Warwickshire opener Nick Knight who hit 103.

His innings was not the most fluent, but he lasted until the final over before he became Greg Smith's third victim.

Greg Smith
Smith snared four wickets

The South African left-armer ended with four wickets after removing Mark Wagh and Dougie Brown in a superb opening spell.

Despite Knight's vital innings, the Notts bowlers kept the visitors in check and it was only in the 46th over that the scoring rate crept above four.

Left-arm spinner Richard Stemp bowled a miserly spell and gave away only 30 runs from his 10 over spell.

But even his efforts were put in the shade by paceman Smith.

He beat the bat on numerous occasions when the ball was new to take two for 13 from his first eight overs, including three maidens.

Then he returned at the death to dismiss Knight then bowl Vasbert Drakes in his final over to finish with superb figures of four for 18.
