Lara quits Trinidad job
Brian Lara
Lara: Facing a busy winter schedule
West Indies batting star Brian Lara has stepped down as Trinidad and Tobago skipper after leading the team in domestic competitions since 1994.

Lara asked not to be considered for the job, but told the Trinidad and Tobago Board of Control that he will play in next month's Red Stripe Bowl under the new captain.

The 31-year-old has been included in the West Indies squad for the ICC Knockout Trophy tournament in Kenya and if they make the final, he would be unlikely to be back before the semi-final stage of the Bowl.

Trinidad and Tobago will play Barbados, Jamaica, Canada and the United States in their first round group.

The 31-year-old, world record holder for the hghest Test and first-class scores, resigned the West Indies captaincy earlier this year following an unsuccessful tour of New Zealand.

He then took a three-month break from the game and missed the home series against Zimbabwe and Pakistan.

Adams: Retains the support of the West Indies Board

Lara returned to the West Indies side for the tour of England, where they lost the Test series 3-1 and failed to reach the final of the triangular one-day competition.

His successor as skipper, Jimmy Adams, has been re-appointed for this winter's tour to Australia.

The West Indies Cricket Board endorsed his position at their weekend meeting.

They have also accepted invitation to tour Zimbabwe for the first time in June and July next year.

The schedule will include three Tests and a one-day series, also featuring New Zealand.
