Pakistan win the toss against Sri Lanka and choose to bat first on a Colombo wicket even World Cup mascot Stumpy - for all his lack of footwork - would fancy getting runs on
Sri Lanka fans are in great voice and they soon have something to celebrate as Ahmed Shehzad is caught behind playing a lazy shot off Thisara Perera
Although with the benefit of hindsight Sri Lanka might wish Shehzad had stayed in a while longer. In his place Kamran Akmal comes to the crease and takes an immediate liking to the seam attack
But after a brisk start to his innings Akmal gets bogged down and in trying to relieve the pressure is stumped after an ill-advised wander down the wicket
The middle overs are not always the most exciting part of a one-day international, but Misbah-ul-Haq keeps the scoreboard ticking over despite boundaries being at a premium
And Younus Khan appears in imperious form at the other end in hitting 76, surprisingly his highest score in a World Cup match
Adopting an all-or-nothing approach, Shahid Afridi hits some lusty blows but is out for 16 as Pakistan close on 277-7
On a batsman-friendly wicket Pakistan look for early wickets but Shoaib Akhtar is frustrated as little troubles the Sri Lanka openers
And after only scoring one from his first 12 balls Tillakaratne Dilshan begins to open his shoulders with Sri Lanka seemingly untroubled
But that man Afridi cannot be kept out the game and after snaring the catch to dismiss Upul Tharanga he bowls Dilshan to spark a Sri Lanka mini-collapse from 76-0 to 96-4
Sri Lanka fall well behind the required rate but with Kumar Sangakkara at the crease hope remains for the Sri Lankan fans
And it appears a hopeless task until some late hitting from Nuwan Kulasekara gives the home fan a glimmer of hope
But Pakistan hold their nerve to maintain their perfect record in this year's tournament
