Porterfield contributed 20 runs before being dismissed |
Ireland captain William Porterfield says his side must regroup for Wednesday's clash with England after Friday's defeat by Bangladesh. The Irish restricted Bangladesh to a modest 205 but a poor batting display saw Ireland bowled out for 178. "We let ourselves down with the bat," said Porterfield. "You can't afford that many soft dismissals in this tournament but we have to bounce back from this. We can't let it bother us." Porterfield added:"We have to leave the batting here and move on to Bangalore (where they play England on Wednesday). "After 50 overs it was pretty good and the way we hauled it back after the first five or six overs in the field was really good." Defeat by England on Wednesday would put Ireland under huge pressure with their next game against co-hosts India then next up in Bangalore on 6 March. Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan was relieved by his team's win after their opening defeat by India. The win helped Bangladesh avenge two successive defeats by Ireland in major events, having lost during the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean and again in the 2009 World Twenty20 in England. "It was a good game. I thought we played really hard cricket although we didn't bat well. Our bowlers and fielders showed great character and our support was excellent," said Shakib.
