Second Test, Wellington, day three: New Zealand 356 & 9-0 v Pakistan 376 Match scorecard
Misbah batted for more than five hours for his 99 |
Pakistan captain Misbah ul-Haq fell one short of his century as his side's second Test against New Zealand in Wellington was left delicately poised. The tourists made 376 for a 20-run first-innings lead and the Kiwis ended day three 9-0 in their second innings. Pakistan were 286-3 at one stage as they looked set to dominate the match. But New Zealand pace bowler Chris Martin and spinner Daniel Vettori helped their side back into the game with four wickets apiece. The Kiwis had been frustrated by a 142-run fourth-wicket partnership between Misbah and Younis Khan for most of the first two sessions of the third day. | 606: DEBATE |
Khan made 73 until he was dubiously dismissed by Vettori with the last ball before tea when he was adjudged to have got an edge to a ball caught close in by Jesse Ryder. Vettori followed up by taking the wickets of Asad Shafiq for nought and Adnan Akmal for 22 as the hosts reined in Pakistan. Martin then came to the fore as he also added three wickets to his tally, including catching Misbah, who had toiled for more than five hours for his 99, leg before. The tourists lost their last five wickets for 52 runs as Vettori took 4-100 and Martin finished with 4-91. New Zealand, who are attempting to level the series after Pakistan's victory in the opening Test, ended the day three without loss.
