Alastair Cook has revealed the secret to his form at the Gabba after he added an unbeaten 132 to a half-century in the first innings. "Over the last 12 months I've had a bit of a tinker with my technique and tried to improve it," Cook said. "The results today, I'm very happy with."

The England dressing room is back to normal now that coach Andy Flower has returned from surgery to remove a melanoma surgically removed. Captain Andrew Strauss joked that the atmosphere had been more "light-hearted" in Flower's absence, but added: "You always want things to be as normal as possible in big Test matches and when he was away for a couple of days it was a bit odd."

Steve James, who played for Glamorgan and England, reckons England should bat for as long as possible on the final day of the first Test in Brisbane. He wrote: "What happens in the match now then? England keep batting, that's what. A declaration? Forget it. Grind them into the dirt and make sure they crawl to Adelaide for the second Test."
