Second Twenty20 international, Kimberley: South Africa 194-6 (20 ovs) bt Zimbabwe 186-7 (20 ovs) by eight runs Match scorecard
Duminy top-scored in the Proteas' win |
JP Duminy hit the highest score by a South African in Twenty20 internationals as they wrapped up a 2-0 series win over Zimbabwe in Kimberley. The left-hander smashed 96 from 54 balls, while Graeme Smith's 46 helped the hosts post a daunting 194-6. The visitors were in contention for most of the chase and threatened to win it when Brendan Taylor (59) and Chamu Chibhabha (59) put on 107. But despite 26 from Elton Chigumbura Zimbabwe fell eight runs short. "We lost a few key wickets up front, so it was about rebuilding the innings, then launching at the end," said Duminy, who hit ten fours and four sixes. "It's always good to get runs under the belt, especially for me after an iffy sort of season last season." Northamptonshire's Chigumbura said he was happy with his side's improved showing after they went down by seven wickets in the first match in Bloemfontein on Friday. "It was a much better performance, especially with the ball," said Chigumbura, "but the last three overs went for many (runs). Overall I'm happy."
