New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori wins the toss and chooses to bat first in St Lucia, with his side knowing they must win to reach the World Twenty20 semi-finals. England have already qualified
Some tight bowling from England restricts New Zealand in the opening overs and Tim Bresnan gets his reward when Jesse Ryder is bowled trying to hit the ball out of the ground
Key New Zealand batsman Brendon McCullum struggles to reach his brilliant best and becomes Graeme Swann's second victim when Michael Lumb takes a catch on the boundary, leaving his side on 65-3 in the 11th over
New Zealand fight back well though, with Scott Styris and Ross Taylor putting on 62 from 41 balls that leads the Black Caps to 149-6 off their 20 overs.
Michael Lumb and Craig Kieswetter give England another decent start with some big shots early on in St Lucia. Lumb hits four boundaries and a six in reaching 32.
But after Kieswetter falls for 15, Ravi Bopara fails to make the most of his chance with new father Kevin Pietersen back in England. Scott Styris celebrates getting the right-hander for just nine.
And when Paul Collingwood chips a catch into the leg-side for only three, his side are suddenly flagging on 66-4. England again put their faith in Eoin Morgan and Luke Wright to turn things round.
Luke Wright responds with a typically bullish knock, the Sussex batsman smashing three fours in his 17-ball knock of 24 to wrest the initiative away from New Zealand
And Eoin Morgan is his usual unorthodox self at the other end, spraying the ball all round the field on his way to 40, as part of a 52-run partnership with Luke Wright that puts England firmly on track for victory
The win is completed by Tim Bresnan, pictured celebrating with Graeme Swann, as he hits an unbeaten 23 to add to his earlier impressive bowling display to see England home by three wickets with five balls to spare
