Jacob Oram's superb 83 off 40 balls helped New Zealand on their way to a crushing 146-run win over Bangladesh in the first one-day international. The all-rounder provided an astonishing late onslaught as the Black Caps posted 336-9 from their 50 overs. Peter Ingram (69), Ross Taylor (51) and Neil Broom (71) contributed, Shafiul Islam taking 4-68 for the tourists. Tamim Iqbal hit 62 in reply, but five batsmen fell for single-score figures as Bangladesh slumped to 190 all out. Andy McKay, Oram and Martin Guptill shared six wickets, while captain Daniel Vettori led the way with 3-33 from 10 overs. | 606: DEBATE |
Bangladesh never looked capable of matching the Black Caps' scoring rate, especially as Broom and Vettori had taken 22, 17, 14 and 25 runs off the first four batting powerplays. Broom and Oram then added 123 in just 11.1 overs as the hosts put Bangladesh to the sword in emphatic fashion with the bat, before running through the tourists' batting line-up with the ball.
