Scotland captain Gavin Hamilton was pleased with his side despite their 189-run defeat by Australia. It had looked like the tourists would score well in excess of their 345 until some tight bowling by Gordon Goudie. "To stem the flow was crucial because it could have got out of control," said Hamilton after the one-day match. "I think, as a team, we can take a lot away from today. We stood up well. When you play a team like Australia, you have to watch and learn." Hamilton, who top-scored with 38 in an opening stand of 51 with Fraser Watts (24), praising Goudie, who finished with five for 73. | Australian might not win every game, but they are pushing forward and that's something we can learn from Scotland captain Gavin Hamilton |
"Gordon mixes his pace well, he bowls yorkers at will and, to get a five-for against these guys, is obviously outstanding," said the captain. Hamilton thought his side would benefit from the experience of facing the Australians in Edinburgh. "I said to the players, if you're not involved, you've got to watch the way they go about their cricket," he said. "Everything they do is right, they might not win every game, but they are pushing forward and that's something we can learn from."
