Herefordshire face having to bat for much of the final day to earn a draw |
Herefordshire's batsmen produced a very solid showing to claim maximum batting points on day two of the Minor Counties Championship match against Cheshire. After Cheshire posted 454-9 declared in their first innings, Herefordshire knew they would have to dig deep. Skipper Chris Boroughs led from the front with 65, while he received good support from David Exhall who made 41. Stuart Wedge (53 not out) then scored his maiden Herefordshire half-century as he helped guide them to 327 all out. Former Worcestershire bowler Wedge shared in a ninth-wicket stand of 62 with James Shackleton (26) as they steered Herefordshire towards the follow-on target of 305. Wedge and Shackleton's effort was a record ninth-wicket stand for Herefordshire against Cheshire. The home side had a lead of 127 on first-innings scores and they set about extending this during the remainder of the second day's play. Cheshire's Chris Tipper followed up his 219 in the first innings with a knock of 50. Ben Spendlove was 71 not out overnight as the home side closed the second day on 201-5 giving them an overall lead of 328.
