Broad has faced a backlash after criticising Pakistan's security efforts

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lodged an official complaint against referee Chris Broad over his comments concerning the Lahore terror attack.

The English official criticised security following last Tuesday's ambush, which left six players injured.

"We believe Broad made unwarranted critical remarks about the security," said the PCB's Saleem Altaf.

"The proper procedure was to inform the International Cricket Council about his views in his tour report."

Six Pakistanis - five policemen and a bus driver - were killed and six Sri Lankan players and two team officials wounded when armed men attacked a bus carrying the visiting team to the venue for the second Test.

Broad was travelling to the Gaddafi Stadium along with fellow match officials Simon Taufel, Steve Davis, Nadeem Ghouri and Ahsan Raza when his bus came under fire.

The driver of Broad's vehicle was killed in the attack and local umpire Raza was seriously injured after being shot.

Former England Test batsman Broad later said: "I am extremely angry that we were promised high-level security and in our hour of need that security vanished," adding that he and his colleagues were left like "sitting ducks" when security forces ran for cover.

However, his claims have already been vehemently denied by a string of Pakistan officials, including PCB chairman Ijaz Butt, who labelled Broad's remarks "obnoxious" and "totally untrue and fabricated".

Former Pakistan captain and director general of the PCB Javed Miandad even said he would urge the ICC to impose a life ban on Broad, whose comments have been lent some support by Taufel.
