Bad weather forced the second one-day international between New Zealand and India to be abandoned in Wellington.

The tourists won the toss and elected to bat, but rain interrupted their innings twice in its early stages.

They reached 188-4 in 28.4 overs before the players had to leave the field for a third time, and the umpires decided to abandon the match.

Sachin Tendulkar made 61 and Virender Sehwag was out for 54, with four Black Caps bowlers taking a wicket each.

"It was frustrating but the weather's uncontrollable unless you have an indoor stadium," said India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

"I don't know if we would have won, but we were in a good position if it was a 50-over game."

India stuck with the same team that won the opening match while New Zealand were forced into a reshuffle because of a hand injury to wicketkeeper-batsman Brendon McCullum.

He was cleared to play in Wellington but only as a batsman, with Peter McGlashan behind the stumps and Neil Broom dropped from the starting XI.

The players wore black armbands and observed a minute's silence before the match as a mark of respect for the victims of Tuesday's attack on the Sri Lanka team in Pakistan.

India have a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The third match is in Christchurch on Sunday.
