Tri-series one-day international, Mirpur: Sri Lanka 210-6 beat Zimbabwe 80 by 130 runs Match scorecard
Kulasekara finished with figures of 3-13 from seven overs |
Three wickets each for Nuwan Kulasekara and Ajantha Mendis saw Sri Lanka dismiss Zimbabwe for just 80 runs in an embarrassingly easy 130-run victory. Stuart Matsikenyeri (15) was the only Zimbabwe batsman to hit double figures as Sri Lanka's bowlers took 28.2 overs to secure the Tri-Nation win in Mirpur. Sri Lanka made 210 from their 50 overs although Edward Rainsford's impressive bowling reduced them to 97-5. But Angelo Mathews (52) and Jehan Mubarak (31) led a Sri Lanka recovery. It was all-rounder Mathew's first international half-century in his third appearance for Sri Lanka. "We always knew that Angelo has got potential. He has proved that over and over with the A team and Under-19 side. "We had the opportunity to get him in the squad, [and] he paid a lot of dividend to us," said skipper Mahela Jayawardene. Mathews, 21, put on 69 for the sixth wicket with Mubarak, hitting two sixes and a solitary four during his patient innings. He then added a further 44 with Thilan Thushara to ensure Sri Lanka's bowlers had a decent total to defend. And they soon reduced Zimbabwe to 53-5 as Kulasekara (3-13) ripped through the top order. Mathews and Thushara chipped in with a wicket a piece, while Mendis (3-15) wrapped up the innings when he had Tawanda Mupariwa caught for a duck.
